Chromate and Non-Chromate Conversion Coatings
High level corrosion resistance in a cost-effective, non-electrolytic process for aluminium
Chromate Conversion Coatings
We are phasing out Alocrom chromate conversions coatings at the end of 2017. They will be replaced by non-chromate conversion coatings, see below.
Non-Chromate Conversion Coatings
Iridite NCP
Iridite NCP is a non-chromate conversion coating that conforms to EoLV, RoHS and WEEE directives. It offers corrosion resistance up to 1000 salt spray hours, is temperature resistant so it is excellent for high temperature surroundings, and has excellent adhesion properties for sealants, adhesives and paint.
Key Features:
We are now offering Surtec 650 chromitAL, a hexavalent chromium free passivation for aluminium based on trivalent chromium which offers excellent bare corrosion protection comparable to hexavalent passivation.

- Elimination of the use of hazardous hexavalent and trivalent chromium.
- Provides corrosion protection that rivals conventional chromate conversion coatings when tested in accordance with ASTM B 117
- The conversion coating passes the requirement of MIL-C-5541 for electrical contact resistance for Class 3 coatings.
- Provides an excellent primer or paint base, or for other subsequent organic treatments when tested in accordance with ASTM D 3359.
- No aging or curing required before topcoat application.
We are now offering Surtec 650 chromitAL, a hexavalent chromium free passivation for aluminium based on trivalent chromium which offers excellent bare corrosion protection comparable to hexavalent passivation.
Key Features:
- hexavalent chromium-free passivation for aluminium
- excellent bare corrosion protection comparable to hexavalent passivation
- produces visible, faintly blue to tan iridescent layers
- Provides a base for painting
- Provides increased corrosion resistance while still preserving electrical conductivity
- fulfils all requirements of ELV, RoHS and WEEE
- meets or exceeds MIL-DTL-81706B and MIL-DTL-5541F for bare corrosion
